Abstract

Over the years, in the cardiology department of the Bakoulev National Medical Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery, which was headed by Professor L.M. Fitileva from 1962 to 1994, scientific research on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac diseases and defects, coronary heart disease, rhythm and conduction disturbances, and vascular diseases was carried out. In part 2 of the article, 27 dissertations for the degree of candidate (22) and doctor (5) of medical sciences, executed by employees of the cardiology department from 1974 to 1996, are considered. Including 5 candidate and 2 doctoral dissertations were devoted to the study of the clinic of ischemic heart disease (IHD) and its complications, methods of determining the volume of damage of a myocard and its reserves; 4 candidate and 1 doctoral – the criteria for the selection of patients with IHD for surgical treatment; 11 candidate and 2 doctoral theses – immediate and long-term results of the treatment of IHD. In operated patients and patients treated conservatively, the following were studied: survival rate, dynamics of arterial hypertension, immune status, state of the hormonal system, cardiac arrhythmias, left ventricular ejection fraction etc. Two PhD theses were devoted to the surgical treatment of IHD with artificial circulation and ischemic mitral regurgitation after coronary artery bypass grafting. When performing dissertations, the method of comparing the results of clinical, coronary angiographic, ventriculographic and other studies was widely used, generally reflecting the contribution of cardiologists to the development of coronary surgery.
