Abstract

Today, there is a growing number of patients with implantable active cardiac devices such as pacemakers, cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) and resynchronization therapy devices. Conducting cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in such patients remains a problem due to the possible effect of a magnetic field on the device and, accordingly, on the patient. The recent introduction of conditionally safe active implanted heart systems represents a definite step in overcoming the limitations of pre-MRI. However, the described systems require compliance with certain conditions for conducting research and switching to a specialized mode of operation before using in a magnetic field. Our article presents the results of MR studies of patients with various conditionally compatible active implanted heart systems. Studies of patients with implanted pacemakers were carried out in full. But it is worth noting that in the right heart of patients with pacemaker artifacts from implanted electrodes were noted, which did not distort the examination results. Studies of patients with implanted cardioverter-defibrillators were stopped due to pronounced susceptibility artifacts, which made it difficult to evaluate images. Thus, an assessment of the obtained MR images and an analysis of the diagnostic capabilities of cardiac examination for doctors of clinical specialties were carried out.
