Abstract

We compared 3 reperfusion strategies in patients with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEMI): thrombolysis, primary percutaneous coronary intervention (primary PCI) and pharmacoinvasive reperfusion. We enrolled 665 STEMI patients admitted to the hospital within 12 hours of onset of acute myocardial infarction. 175 patients were treated with primary PCI, 333 patients were treated with thrombolysis and 157 patients were treated with pharmacoinvasive reperfusion. There was significant reduction of mortality, incidence of non-fatal reinfarction, post-infarction angina and development of heart failure in patients treated with pharmacoinvasive reperfusion comparing with those treated with thrombolysis (both effective and non-effective). There was no significant difference between efficacy of primary PCI and pharmacoinvasive reperfusion.
