Abstract

The aims of this study were to determine the effectiveness of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with use of bare-metal stents (BMS) and sirolimus-eluting stents (SES) in 115 ischemic heart disease patients with obesity. Our data displayed that body mass index (BMI) > 30 kg/m2 was a predictor of major adverse cardiac events (cardiac death, myocardial infarction, restenosis rates in the target vessel) in patients with obesity receiving bare-metal stents. Rates of ischemic events in patients with obesity are higher than for those with normal BMI receiving BMS (45,5 vs 27,7%). SES implantation reduced this complications in patients with obesity (20%).
