Abstract

Intraoperative ultrasonic flowmetry (IUF) is a simple and non-invasive method for rapid assessment of blood flow parameters used to assess the viability of grafts during coronary bypass surgery. It is known that IUF helps to identify and eliminate technical defects in the applied anastomoses in due time. The IUF is a backup tool that signals the need to control the patency of the graft and can be routinely used in conjunction with other traditional methods. However, in some cases, IUF may not be informative enough. The paper describes clinical cases in which the results of the performed IUF did not indicate the failure of grafts, subsequently confirmed by angiography, which could potentially lead to major adverse cardiovascular events.
